Other Events
If you would like to support Afasic by doing something, but running, cycling and golf are not your thing; here are some possible alternative events to consider:
Sponsored Skydive – Fancy jumping out of a perfectly good plane for no other reason than to raise money for Afasic? If so, look at the Skyline Parachuting website for a location near you! No previous experience, training or fitness levels required. Get people to sponsor you and enjoy the ride. Don’t forget to contact us for a fundraising pack for this event.
Walking – If you prefer keeping your feet on the ground but don’t fancy breaking into a run, then this may be the event for you. ‘Just Walk 2012’ takes place on Saturday 12 May and starts at Goodwood racecourse. You can choose from 10k, 20k, 40k, or 60k walking routes through the South Downs, with registration costs of £25 upwards, depending on distance. For more information about the event, go to the Just Walk website and then contact us for a fundraising pack for this event.
The Wirral Coastal Walk is a great opportunity for family and friends to team up and raise funds for Afasic. The full route is 15 miles but with interim completion points at 4, 9 and 13 miles it suits all levels of fitness and ability. It’s a popular event, with a real focus on supporting charities, and is taking place this year on Sunday 27 May. The starting point is Seacombe Ferry and the 15 mile finish point is Thurstaston Country Park; for more information and to register please see http://www.wirralcoastalwalk.org/ and remember to contact us for a fundraising pack for this event.
Another walking challenge that you may want to tackle is the ‘Thames Path Challenge’ that is taking place on the weekend of the 29/30 September. There are two choices of distance, 50km or 100km and you can enter individually or as a team. Both routes start near Putney Bridge in London and take you out along the Thames to Runnymede for the 50km and Henley for the 100km. Please go to our unique booking page to register.
These are just ideas, and there are many other possibilities, but whatever you decide to do, Afasic will support you as much as possible. We will send you an initial pack with sponsor forms, information about Afasic, stickers, training and fundraising advice and tips, and a t-shirt. We are also on hand to help you with training and fundraising advice. Just get in touch to let us know what you are doing.
Please support Afasic; you really can help to make a difference.
